**SAMASTIPUR:** In a significant bid to make the district greener and raise environmental awareness, a major initiative has been launched under the ‘Hariyali Samastipur Abhiyan’ (Green Samastipur Campaign). Under the joint auspices of Anand Drishti and the Sankalptaru Foundation, the Samastipur block has been selected for the first phase of the campaign, which aims to provide farmers with free fruit-bearing and timber saplings.

On Sunday, a large number of farmers and agriculture advisors attended a programme held at the Block Agriculture Officer’s office in Jitwarpur. Prior to this, a meeting regarding the campaign was also organised at the library premises in Dharampur village. During the event, farmers were briefed on the critical importance of environmental conservation, horticulture, and tree plantation as a sustainable means to boost their income.

Addressing the gathering, agriculture advisors stated that such campaigns would not only aid in environmental protection but also prove instrumental in strengthening the economic condition of local farmers. Assuring the organisations of their full support, the advisors appealed to the farming community to plant as many trees as possible.
Around 100 farmers were successfully registered during the meeting. Based on the demand from the agricultural community, a list of approximately 16,000 saplings has been prepared for distribution. The varieties to be given out entirely free of cost include:
* Mango
* Litchi
* Wood Apple (*Bel*)
* Guava
* Lemon
* Jackfruit
* Indian Blackberry (*Jamun*)
* Pomegranate
* Apple
* Sapodilla (*Chikoo*)
* Malta
* Sweet Lime (*Mausambi*)
* Mahogany
Welcoming the attendees, Ashish Anand, Project Director of Anand Drishti, said, “Farmers are the backbone of the economy in Bihar and the country. Environmental conservation and agricultural development must go hand in hand; only then will our future generations secure a safe future.”

Representatives from the Sankalptaru Foundation also expressed their gratitude to the farmers and agriculture advisors. They emphasised that the campaign would not be limited to merely planting saplings. Instead, the initiative will strive to engage farmers on a long-term basis to promote both environmental greenery and economic prosperity.
Farmers from various panchayats participated enthusiastically in the programme and pledged to make the mass plantation drive a resounding success.
